Liliana Rivera-Cruz Dies in Phoenix Bus Accident on 10 Freeway
PHOENIX, AZ (October 10, 2024) — A woman identified as Liliana Rivera-Cruz died in a bus accident on Saturday, September 28.
Arizona Department of Public Safety said the incident took place on 10 Freeway near 7th Street at around 5:30 a.m.
According to the Arizona DPS, the bus was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Investigators determined the bus suffered a tire failure. Then it left the roadway before it eventually struck a center median barrier.
Officials initially said there were 35 people on the bus. However, they later clarified that only 23 were on the bus when the incident happened.
Emergency responders transported sixteen passengers to the hospital with minor injuries like cuts and sprains.
One person sustained serious injuries because she was ejected from the bus during the accident. Paramedics transported her to the hospital in extremely critical condition. DPS later confirmed that the victim died.
Authorities later identified the deceased as 39-year-old Liliana Rivera-Cruz, of California.
The incident blocked multiple lanes of traffic for hours.
