Scooter Rider Kenneth Van Buren Struck and Killed by Jorge Fajardo in Tucson

 
TUCSON, AZ (September 5, 2023) – The Tucson Police Department identified 77-year-old Kenneth Michael Van Buren who died in a hit-and-run accident on South 12th Avenue on August 20.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near West Michigan Drive. Based on a report, Van Buren was riding a mobility scooter northbound in the southbound lanes of 12th Avenue at the time of the crash.
 
At the same time, 22-year-old Jorge Elfido Reyes Fajardo was driving a Nissan Altima heading northbound. Due to unknown reasons, Fajardo drove left of center across South 12 Avenue and hit Van Buren before he continued on into a light pole. Fajardo then left the scene on foot.
 
As a result, Van Buren sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Officers said Fajardo came back a short while later and they confirmed his impairment. Police charged him with several felony charges to include second degree murder and felony DUI.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
