Kenneth Montenegro Dies, Two Suffer Injuries After Whitewater Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 10

 
WHITEWATER, CA (February 15, 2025)Kenneth Montenegro died while two other people sustained injuries following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 early Friday, February 7.

The fatal incident involving a gray Volkswagen Jetta, a black GMC Envoy and a white Toyota C-HR occurred at around 2:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities stated that the Jetta being driven by 25-year-old Montenegro of Palm Springs had been heading west along the eastbound lanes of I-10, for reasons still undetermined.

The Jetta then slammed head-on into the Envoy, operated by a 49-year-old Los Angeles man.

The force of impact sent the Jetta crashing into the C-HR, driven by a 22-year-old La Quinta woman.

The accident left Montenegro dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the two other motorists involved survived but suffered major injuries, prompting respondents to transport them to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officials are still looking into the cause and factors surrounding the crash.
