Julio Jimenez Hospitalized, Motorcyclist Dead after Wrong-Way Accident on 5 Freeway near Lake Samish Road
BELLINGHAM, WA (August 25, 2023) — 25-year-old Julio C. Jimenez from Mount Vernon sustained injuries in a crash on Tuesday, August 8.
The accident took place on the 5 Freeway, just south of Lake Samish Drive, near milepost 240 at around 4:06 a.m. According to Washington State Patrol, the motorcyclist traveled south in the northbound farthest left lane when the crash happened.
WSP public information officer Kelsey Harding said paramedics airlifted the motorcyclist to a hospital. He later succumbed to sustained injuries and died.
Officials have not yet released his name pending notification of loved ones. They only described him as a 38-year-old man from Monroe.
Paramedics also transported the driver of the other vehicle to Skagit Valley Hospital. They released his identity as 25-year-old Julio C. Jimenez from Mount Vernon. Further information about his injuries is unknown.
Officials blocked all northbound lanes of traffic for around three hours. They reopened all lanes at around 7:00 a.m.
