BOULDER, CO (January 10, 2025) — Joshua Gilson and Christina Gilson died and their children were injured in a car accident on New Year’s Day.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the incident occurred on Highway 36 near Lefthand Canyon Drive at around 10:00 a.m.
 
Investigators said a Jeep driven by Gilson moved north on Highway 36 near Lefthand Canyon Drive. Then it crossed over the center grass median. After that, it overturned and came to a stop on the opposite side of the highway.
 
Both adults inside the vehicle died in the accident. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office identified them as Joshua and Christina Gilson, both 43, of Castle Rock. Their 11-year-old and 16-year-old children, who were with them inside the vehicle, sustained injuries. The family’s dog also suffered severe injuries and had to be euthanized.
 
Authorities later determined that Joshua had fallen asleep at the wheel, which led to the rollover crash.
 
Colorado State Patrol later said that Christina did not wear a seatbelt when the incident happened.
