Joseph Pena Killed after Taft Hit-and-Run on Highway 181 near County Road 3667

 
TAFT, TX (January 29, 2024) — A 24-year-old man identified as Joseph William Pena died in a hit-and-run on Saturday, January 20.
 
The Texas Department of Public Safety, said the crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Highway 181 near County Road 3667.
 
The investigation determined that Pena was with his family when an argument occurred. They then pulled over the vehicle and Pena got out.
 
As the family argument continued, Pena walked onto Highway 181 near County Road 3667. That’s when a truck fatally struck him.
 
The driver of the truck left the area without stopping.
 
On Thursday, DPS officials provided an update on the truck’s description. They said it is light-colored with big lights and bars on the front of it. In addition, the truck likely has front right-side damage.
 
Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to call the Highway Patrol office in Sinton at (361) 364-9007.
