Jose Rodriguez Detained in Lubbock Car Crash on 114th Street

 
LUBBOCK, TX (September 12, 2023) – Officers with the Lubbock Police Department arrested 29-year-old Jose Rodriguez after a head-on crash on 114th Street on August 31.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened at University Avenue. Based on a report, Rodriguez was driving south on University Avenue at the time of the crash.
 
At that point, a woman was driving north. Police said that prior to that, the woman attempted to escape from Rodriguez while he was at work. Adding to that, Rodriguez was on the phone with her when he drove his car across the center turning lane of University Avenue and struck the woman’s car head-on.
 
As a result, the woman and a child in the car were hurt in the incident.
 
Officers determined Rodriguez used his car as a deadly weapon when he “intentionally caused a head-on collision with the victim. They then took Rodriguez to the Lubbock County Detention Center on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. However, no other details are available.
