Jose Perez Killed in Accident Involving 16-Year-Old DUI Driver on Highway 46 in New Braunfels

 
NEW BRAUNFELS, TX (July 17, 2023) – The New Braunfels Police Department identified 51-year-old Jose Medrano Perez of Plantersville who died in a DUI accident on Highway 46 on July 9.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at T Bar M Drive around 2:40 PM. Based on a report, the victim was a passenger in a red Ford Explorer that crashed with a blue Honda Pilot head-on.
 
New Braunfels fire crews transported Perez to Christus New Braunfels Hospital, where he died.
 
Crews said two adults and two children in the Honda Pilot sustained injuries in the crash. They took the 40-year-old woman and 12-year-old girl to a San Antonio hospital in critical but stable condition. The nine-year-old boy had non-life-threatening injuries while the other adult man in the vehicle did not require hospitalization.
 
A 41-year-old New Braunfels man in the backseat of the Ford Explorer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
 
Police later charged the Honda driver, a 16-year-old from Mexico, with intoxication manslaughter.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
