Jose Mendoza Dies after Rio Hondo Crash on North Sam Houston Boulevard

 
RIO HONDO, TX (September 5, 2024) — 18-year-old Rio Hondo resident, Jose Juan Mendoza, died in a car accident on Friday, August 30.
 
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. on North Sam Houston Boulevard north of Wiesman Road.
 
Reports said a black Dodge Caravan tried to make a left turn into a residence off North Sam Houston Boulevard. At the same time, a silver Toyota occupied by Mendoza traveled above the speed limit southbound on Sam Houston Boulevard.
 
Mendoza’s vehicle then crashed with the Dodge as they made an unsafe left turn.
 
Emergency responders brought Mendoza to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he died.
 
Paramedics also transported the male driver and female passenger of the Dodge to the same hospital with minor injuries.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash.
