EAGLE PASS, TX (June 17, 2024) — Jose Martinez, Noemi Jimenez Martinez, Joanna Martinez, Samantha Martinez, and a child died in a head-on crash on Tuesday, May 28.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident took place on Highway 57, around 9 miles outside of Eagle Pass at about 8:00 p.m.
 
Texas DPS said a 2019 FedEx box truck moved eastbound on Highway 57. At the same time, a grey 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe occupied by a family, traveled westbound. After that, the box truck failed to stay in its lane. It then went into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the Hyundai.
 
Four family members died at the scene. Authorities identified them as 71-year-old Jose, 61-year-old Noemi, 34-year-old Joanna Martinez, and 25-year-old Samantha.
 
Responding officers transported a 10-year-old girl who was also in the Hyundai to Fort Duncan Medical Center. However, she died of sustained injuries while on the way to the hospital.
 
Paramedics brought the driver of the truck to Fort Duncan Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
 
The Texas DPS Troopers handle the ongoing investigation of the incident.
