MESA, AZ (November 20, 2024) – The Mesa Police Department identified 54-year-old Jose Luis Garcia who died in a hit-and-run on Stapley Drive on November 9.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at University Drive Avenue shortly after 6:00 PM. Based on a report, Garcia was driving his truck out of a private drive when something fell from his vehicle.
 
Subsequently, he got out of his truck to get the item and he was hit while walking back to his car. The driver fled the scene.
 
As a result, the victim suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Police described the car as an older model silver passenger truck.
 
No physical evidence was left on the scene. Police said the truck likely had front-end damage in the center of the vehicle.
 
Authorities ask anyone with any information about the crash to call them at 480-644-2211.
