SAHUARITA, AZ (July 20, 2023) – The Pima County Sheriff’s Department identified 47-year-old Johnny Laurelez who died in a hit-and-run on South Nogales Highway on July 13.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened just north of Pima Mine Road. Based on a report, officers responded to the scene and found Laurelez down on the roadway.
 
The PCSD said Laurelez died and evidence showed he had injuries indicating he had been hit by a vehicle. Apparently, the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.
 
Later on, 50-year-old Johnny Badilla arrived and indicated that he had hit a person or animal in the area. Officers arrested him on failing to stop and remain at an accident involving death.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
