John McLaughlin Dies after Phoenix Car Accident on 40th Street and Cholla Street
PHOENIX, AZ (November 8, 2024) — 44-year-old John McLaughlin died in a three-vehicle accident on Monday, October 28.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the accident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. near 40th Street and Cholla Street, just north of Shea Boulevard.
The initial investigation suggests that McLaughlin drove a white pickup truck northbound on 40th Street. Then, for unknown reasons, he went into oncoming southbound lanes. He also ran a red light at Cholla Street.
Police said that just after crossing Cholla Street, McLaughlin crashed into a small black SUV. Due to the impact of the collision, the SUV went off the road into a nearby wall.
Meanwhile, the pickup truck continued north until it struck a garbage truck. There was only one man in the garbage truck.
McLaughlin sustained fatal injuries and responding officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
Paramedics transported two men and a child to a medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities closed 40th Street as detectives investigated the area.
