John Looney Identified in Fatal Truck Crash on Highway 79 in Oakwood

 
OAKWOOD, TX (October 9, 2023) – Officials identified 52-year-old John Looney of Buffalo who died in a crash on Highway 79 on October 4.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 5:30 AM. Based on a report, Looney was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup northeast on the highway prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, a 2001 Peterbilt 18-wheeler truck was traveling southwest at an unsafe speed for the wet roadway conditions. Due to its speed, the truck jack-knifed into the northeast lanes and hit Looney’s Chevrolet.
 
As a result, Looney suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. Leon County Justice of the Peace Jeff Carr confirmed the news.
 
The driver of the Peterbilt was not hurt in the incident.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
