Joel Tijerina Jr. Dead after Pedestrian Accident on West University Boulevard

 
ECTOR COUNTY, TX (November 20, 2024) — 51-year-old Joel Tijerina Jr. from Odessa died in a pedestrian accident on Monday, November 4.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at about 1:16 a.m. on West University Boulevard.
 
Texas DPS said 54-year-old Lori Lee Carbery, of Odessa, drove a 2016 GMC Yukon westbound on West University Boulevard in the inside lane. Then, Tijerina Jr. walked south across the westbound lanes of the roadway. He reportedly failed to yield the right of way to the Yukon, resulting in the vehicle hitting him.
 
Odessa EMS responded and pronounced Tijerina Jr. dead at the scene. Based on reports by Texas DPS, it is not yet known if they have notified his next of kin.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
