Gary Greening Jr., Joe Leediker Jr. Killed in Lufkin Car Accident

 
LUFKIN, TX (May 22, 2024) — Two Lukfin men, Joe Leediker Jr. and Gary Greening Jr., died in a three-vehicle accident on Sunday, May 12.
 
The City of Lufkin Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth said a Honda sedan moved southbound in the 3100 block of South First Street at about 11:15 a.m. in the outside lane. Then it crossed into the path of an 18-wheeler moving southbound in the center lane.
 
According to Pebsworth, the Honda tried to access the crossover in front of Cotton Patch. However, the 18-wheeler T-boned the Honda. It eventually came to a stop in the median.
 
After that, the 18-wheeler also hit a Toyota 4-Runner moving southbound in the inside lane. Then it came to rest in the northbound inside lane.
 
Two men occupied the Honda. Authorities identified the driver as 74-year-old Joe Leediker Jr. He died at the scene. Meanwhile, his passenger identified as 65-year-old Gary Greening Jr., died a short time later at a local hospital.
 
The driver of the 18-wheeler identified as 54-year-old Ervin Mitchell, of Hiram, Georgia, was not injured.
 
Emergency responders brought the driver of the 4-Runner, 19-year-old Blake Shumake, of Cypress, to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
