Jesse Ruiz and Maria Rangel Killed, Derek Glasscock Arrested in High-Speed Crash on Rural Road at Broadway Road [Tempe, AZ]

Jesse Ruiz and Maria Rangel Identified in Fatal High-Speed Crash on Rural Road in Tempe

 
TEMPE, AZ (November 30, 2023) – Officials identified 32-year-old Jesse Ruiz and 31-year-old Maria Rangel who died in a high-speed crash on Rural Road on November 25.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Broadway Road shortly after 1:30 AM.
 
Based on a report, 32-year-old Derek Glasscock was street racing with another car on Rural Road and Terrace Road. Officers tried to stop Glasscock’s blue Ford Mustang but it sped away. Police did not attempt to chase the car, but moments later, they found the same Mustang that had crashed into a power pole on Broadway Road. The impact ejected both Ruiz and Rangel who were passengers in the car. Glasscock was then pinned in the driver’s seat.
 
As a result, Ruiz died at the scene while Rangel died later at a hospital.
 
Glasscock made statements to officers that he had been drinking and should not have been driving. After hospitalization, officers booked him into the Maricopa County jail on two felony counts of reckless manslaughter.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
