James Johnson Struck, Killed while on Motorized Wheelchair in Santa Cruz Hit-and-Run

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (October 4, 2022) – Officers identified James Johnson as the victim who died in a hit-and-run on September 11.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Capitola Road at approximately 10:00 PM.
 
Based on a report, the victim was in a motorized wheelchair. While crossing the road, a Mercedes Benz struck him. The vehicle took off before its driver stopped nearby and left on foot.
 
As a result, the man suffered grave injuries in the incident. Paramedics transported him to Natividad Medical Center, where 69-year-old Santa Cruz resident Johnson later died.
 
Later on, officers identified the vehicle driver as 39-year-old Jessica Thompson of Santa Cruz. Officers arrested her at her home for felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and hit and run.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
