James Galvin Dead after Plane Crash at Picacho Peak

 
PICACHO, AZ (June 25, 2024) — A pilot, 68-year-old James Galvin from Oro Valley, died after a plane crash on Saturday, June 8.
 
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. from a hiker who saw a small plane crash near the top of Picacho Peak.
 
The National Transportation Safety Board said that for an undetermined reason, a single-engine Rans S-12XL Airaile crashed in a mountainous area.
 
Deputies said Galvin, who was the pilot, was the only person inside the plane. Responding officers pronounced him dead at the crash site.
 
Authorities said a NTSB investigator arrived Sunday and started documenting the crash site and examining the wreckage of the aircraft.
 
Officials closed Picacho Peak State Park until further notice.
 
NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration handle the ongoing investigation for the cause of the crash.
