Ismael Martinez Killed, Martin Salas-Gallegos Arrested after Odessa DUI Accident

 
ODESSA, TX (October 9, 2023) — One person identified as 57-year-old Ismael Martinez of Odessa died in a DUI crash on Friday, September 8.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an initial investigation revealed that a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado moved westbound on West 16th Street around 11:00 p.m.
 
At the same time, Martinez drove a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on West 16th Street. The Chevrolet Silverado then veered into the eastbound lane. After that, it struck Martinez.
 
Another vehicle, a 2006 Chrysler 300, moving eastbound on West 16th Street, struck Martinez, who was lying in the roadway.
 
Emergency responders pronounced Martinez dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, 61-year-old Martin Salas-Gallegos of Odessa, sustained injuries. Paramedics brought him to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for treatment. The driver of the Chrysler was not hurt.
 
Upon Salas-Gallegos’ release from the hospital, officers brought him into custody on Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle charge. Ector County Jail Records said he has since been released.
