Irene Acevedo Killed, Maria Martinez Killed after DUI Accident on Wewoka Drive near Christian Trail Drive

 
SOCORRO, TX (November 30, 2023) — A 24-year-old woman identified as Irene Acevedo died after a DUI crash on Saturday, November 4.
 
The fatal DUI crash took place at the 200 block of Drive in Socorro near Christian Trail Drive. Investigators said 23-year-old Maria Isabel Lopez Martinez drove a utility terrain vehicle while impaired.
 
Acevedo was in the bed of the UTV when Lopez Martinez lost control of the vehicle. The impact ejected Acevedo off the UTV bed and died from her injuries.
 
Lopez Martinez surrendered herself to the police on Tuesday. Authorities arrested and charged her with intoxication manslaughter. As of Wednesday, she remained in El Paso County Jail in Downtown under a $21,000 bond.
