Giraldo Salas-Chacon Arrested, One Killed and Five Hospitalized in Las Vegas DUI Accident

LAS VEGAS, NV (January 6, 2025) — Authorities arrested 20-year-old Giraldo Salas-Chacon after a DUI accident on Wednesday, December 25.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the accident occurred at about 12:11 a.m. on Maryland Parkway, south of Sahara Avenue.

LVMPD said a 2009 Dodge Journey traveled at a high rate of speed south on Maryland Parkway. At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox turned right on a red light from eastbound Sahara Avenue.

Then the Dodge collided into the back of the Chevrolet and caused it to roll over. The impact ejected one passenger from the Chevrolet, which landed on its roof.

Medical personnel pronounced the ejected passenger dead at the scene. They later identified him as a 57-year-old Las Vegas man.

Meanwhile, paramedics brought five other people in the Chevrolet to Sunrise Hospital with minor injuries. They also brought Salas-Chacon, who was behind the wheel of the Dodge, to UMC with minor injuries.

Police said Salas-Chacon displayed signs of impairment. They booked into Clark County Detention Center. Court records show he faces charges of reckless driving and DUI resulting in death.
