Gary Helton Killed in Phoenix Scooter Accident on Cave Creek Road

 
PHOENIX, AZ (October 30, 2024) — A 42-year-old man identified as Gary Helton died in a scooter accident on Wednesday, October 16.
 
According to the Phoenix Police, the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Cave Creek Road near Cheryl Drive.
 
Phoenix Police said that Helton rode his scooter on Cave Creek Road. Then he collided head-on with another driver.
 
Responding officers pronounced Helton dead at the scene.
 
Authorities closed Cave Creek Road in both directions from 13th Street to Holiday Parkway for hours. It has since reopened.
 
The driver remained on the scene. Detectives believe the driver was under the influence. Then they later released the driver.
 
Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky said they will continue to investigate the incident as detectives continue to process the evidence. In addition, he said they will make a charging decision once they complete the investigation is complete.
