MENIFEE, CA (October 10, 2022) – 41-year-old Gabriel Derian of Menifee was arrested after a DUI crash that killed a woman on Newport Road and Berea Road on September 29.

Menifee Police Department and Riverside County Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle wreck around 3:00 p.m. Derian was then driving a westbound Ford SUV on Newport road.

According to Sgt. Matthew Bloch, Derian drove towards the intersection on a red light with an undetermined speed.

A 41-year-old woman was driving a southbound BMW SUV, and was also crossing the intersection on Berea Road. As a result, the Ford slammed into the side of the BMW, causing the latter to hit a Chrysler sedan.

The 55-year-old driver of the sedan was then waiting for a turn to go east to Newport Road on the intersection.

Authorities reported that the woman sustained very critical injuries. Patrol officers performed CPR until the Fire Department paramedics arrived. She later died in the regional trauma center.

Derian was hospitalized with injuries. The sedan driver was treated and discharged.

The suspect was under arrest for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI resulting in great bodily injury, and driving while intoxicated. The authorities found him under the influence at the time of the incident.

Authorities will wait for Derian’s recovery before booking him into jail.
