DALLAM COUNTY, TX (July 12, 2024) — Two men identified as Francisco Galaviz and Joaquin Galaviz-Marquez died in an accident on Friday, June 28.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at around 3:54 p.m. on FM 297, about 18 miles east of Dalhart.
 
Texas DPS said 66-year-old Francisco Galaviz, of Gallup, N.M., drove a 2004 Ford F-150 eastbound on FM 297. Then he failed to stay in a single lane. It resulted in the truck veering off into the south ditch.
 
After that, Galaviz tried to steer the truck back onto the roadway. However, he over-corrected and went into the westbound lane.
 
He then tried to return to the eastbound lane but over-corrected again and went into the south ditch. The truck moved sideways into the ditch. It eventually rolled over and ejected both occupants who did not wear their seat belts.
 
The F-150 came to a stop on its passenger side.
 
The Dallam County Justice of the Peace Carrol Smith pronounced both Galaviz and the passenger dead on the scene. They identified the passenger as 62-year-old Joaquin Galaviz-Marquez, 62, of Gallup, N.M.
