Mary Watts, Frances Woodard Die after Childress Truck Crash on Highway 287
CHILDRESS, TX (August 29, 2023) — Two Childress women identified as 85-year-old Frances Woodard and 84-year-old Mary Watts died in a crash on Thursday, August 24.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident took place on Highway 287 at around 1:10 p.m.
Reports said Woodard drove a Toyota Tundra and tried to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 287 to head north. However, she pulled into the path of a Dodge Ram 3500 traveling south.
The driver of the Ram struck the Tundra on the driver’s side door.
Paramedics pronounced Woodard dead at the scene. They airlifted Watts to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo where she later died.
DPS said neither women wore seatbelts.
Emergency responders also transported the other driver to Childress Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
