Former Police Chief John Wintersteen and Nooraly Lalji Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Lincoln Drive [Paradise Valley, NV]

John Wintersteen and Nooraly Lalji Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Paradise Valley

 
PARADISE VALLEY, NV (January 17, 2024) – Authorities identified former Paradise Valley Police Chief, 78-year-old John Wintersteen, and civilian 47-year-old Nooraly Lalji who died in an accident on Lincoln Drive on January 7.
 
According to the Nevada State Police, the collision happened just west of Tatum Boulevard around 6:30 PM. Based on a report, Lalji was driving a Mercedes-Benz when he hit a dog while heading westbound on Lincoln Drive.
 
Subsequently, Lalji turned around and got out to help the injured dog. At that point, Wintersteen came out of his nearby house and also tried to help. Neighbors said that the dog belonged to Wintersteen. Due to unknown reasons, a Lexus SUV hit them while they were tending to the dog. A Nissan sedan came and hit one of the victims again.
 
As a result, Lalji and Wintersteen both suffered grave injuries and died. The dog also died in the earlier accident.
 
The drivers of the Lexus and the Nissan remained on the scene and cooperated. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the collision.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
