Speeding Causes Major Crash on 90 Freeway in Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, WA (December 13, 2022) – The Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue confirmed that five people suffered injuries in a major 38-vehicle crash on 90 Freeway on December 7.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened in the freeway’s eastbound lanes before 5:30 AM. The total number of vehicles involved came up to 38, including 20 cars and 18 trucks — with at least a dozen of those being semi-trucks.

Based on a report, there was freezing fog and low visibility in the area prior to the crash. A 57-year-old driver was approaching milepost 126 when he lost traction and came to a rest facing north, blocking the eastbound lanes and causing several large collisions.

As a result, 37 other vehicles were involved in the pile-up.

After the accident, officials took five people to hospitals in Quincy and Ellensburg for treatment of injuries.

Troopers cited the 57-year-old driver for speeding too fast for the road conditions.

As of now, the investigation into the case remains ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
