Fernando Alvarez Fatally Injured in Truck Crash on FM 33 near Mile Marker 33

 
HOWARD COUNTY, TX (December 5, 2023) — A man identified as 51-year-old Fernando Alvarez died after being in three different crashes.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accidents involved 10 people at around 9:15 pm on Thursday, November 9, in rainy, wet conditions.
 
The DPS’ preliminary crash said Alvarez drove a Freightliner truck westbound on FM 33 near mile marker 313.
 
Then Alvarez side-swiped a Freightliner truck traveling eastbound on FM 33 driven by 49-year-old Ra Nebmare Nebertcher-Bey.
 
After that, Alvarez continued westbound in the eastbound lane. Then he struck 54-year-old Travis Larson’s car head-on that carried five passengers, including two teenagers.
 
DPS said Alvarez jack-knifed in the middle of the roadway. That’s when a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 21-year-old Bailey Garcia, struck the rear of Alvarez’s truck.
 
The impact ejected Alvarez from his seat and officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Paramedics rushed Larson and his five passengers to Scenic Mountain Medical Center. They are in stable condition.
 
Medics also rushed Garcia and the passenger in her vehicle to SMMC. They are also in stable condition.
 
Nebertcher-Bey received treatment at the scene.
