Two Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 86 in Imperial County

 
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (April 20, 2023) – Officers confirmed that two people died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 86 on April 3.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Highway 78 around 3:32 PM. Based on a report, the victims were traveling on the highway prior to the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, a semi-truck struck their vehicle from behind, forcing it into the rear of another semi-truck traveling in front of them. The collision caused the victims’ vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames.
 
As a result, the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials did not yet release their names, pending notification of their families.
 
Both the drivers of the two semi-trucks were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
 
The initial findings suggested that impairment was not a factor in the crash. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
