Evelyn Merced-Rojas Killed in Car Accident in Lubbock

 
LUBBOCK, TX (April 29, 2024) — A 25-year-old woman identified as Evelyn Merced-Rojas died in a three-vehicle crash on Friday, April 12.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the three-vehicle accident occurred on 27 Freeway near mile marker 48 at about 6:00 a.m.
 
Texas DPS said Merced-Rojas traveled southbound on the northbound side of the freeway. Then her car collided with another vehicle driven by 25-year-old Deja Garcia. After that, as the two vehicles came to a stop, it hit a third car driven by Edwin Argueta.
 
Responding officers pronounced Merced-Rojas dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Garcia and her passenger, 25-year-old Jeffery Smith, to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment of injuries. They also brought Argueta to Covenant Hospital in Plainview.
 
The investigation of the crash is still underway.
