Estela Gallegos Identified in Fatal 2-Vehicle Crash on Drexel Road in Phoenix
TUCSON, AZ (June 13, 2023) – The Pima County Sheriff’s Department identified 68-year-old Estela Gallegos who died in a crash on East Drexel Road on June 9.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at South Palo Verde Road around 5:11 PM. Based on a report, Gallegos was driving a vehicle eastbound on Drexel at the time of the crash.
She had a green light and entered the intersection when a southbound van driven by 64-year-old Ignacio Pena drove through while on a red signal light. Then,Pena’s vehicle collided with the driver’s side of Gallegos’ car.
As a result, Gallegos suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.
Pena received minor injuries during the crash and was cited for causing death by moving violation.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
