Ellis Smith Killed, Kurtis King Charged with Murder in Forth Worth Hit-and-Run

 
FORTH WORTH, TX (July 26, 2024) — Officers arrested Kurtis King after a hit-and-run that killed Ellis Latavion Laron Smith on Friday, July 5.
 
According to the Fort Worth police, the incident took place on the 2400 block of Meacham Boulevard last Friday night.
 
Police said 35-year-old Smith and 34-year-old King argued over a previous business transaction. After that, both of them pulled out knives at each other. Then King went inside his car and ran over Smith with the vehicle.
 
King then drove away from the scene, according to Fort Worth police.
 
Responding officers arrived and found Smith with critical injuries. Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he died. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said his cause of death was homicide due to blunt force trauma.
 
Authorities then arrested Smith and charged him with murder. They then booked him into the Fort Worth City Jail.
 
According to a GoFundMe, Ellis Smith moved to Texas for a fresh start with his wife, Shakavian Smith, from Georgia. Shakavian set up the fundraiser to bring Ellis to Georgia and for funeral expenses.
 
Police said they cannot release further information due to an ongoing investigation.
