Elijah Williams and Another Driver Dead after Speeding Car Crash in Puyallup
PUYALLUP, WA (August 29, 2024) — A 21-year-old man identified as Elijah Williams died in a speeding accident on Wednesday, August 14.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, the two-vehicle crash occurred at Canyon Road East and 160th Street shortly after midnight.
Before the incident, witnesses said they saw the suspect vehicle attempting to race other vehicles south on Canyon Road. A 911 caller said the suspect vehicle traveled at speeds of 130 mph.
According to investigators, Williams tried to make a left turn to go south on Canyon Road East. At the same time, the suspect vehicle moved at a high rate of speed going north. Then the suspect ran a red light and struck William’s vehicle.
First responders said the force of the collision was so strong. It pushed William’s vehicle up a hill about 250 to 300 feet away from the intersection.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found both vehicles completely engulfed in flames. Once firefighters fully extinguished the fires, they pronounced both drivers dead.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner identified Williams as one of the deceased.
