Elijah Mascarenas Sustained Injuries after Phoenix Hit-and-Run
PHOENIX, AZ (January 17, 2024) — Motorcyclist 22-year-old Elijah Mascarenas sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run on Thursday, January 4.
According to the Phoenix police, the accident occurred near 67th Avenue and Van Buren Street at about 7:45 p.m.
Police said a pickup truck was pulling out of a Burger King parking lot. Then it failed to yield to a motorcycle moving west on Van Buren Street. The truck and motorcycle crashed and the truck reportedly fled.
Mascarenas sustained serious injuries in the accident. Firefighters transported Elijah to a medical center, where he spent 24 hours in the ICU. Doctors initially were not certain if he would be able to walk again.
The driver of another truck traveling behind the motorcycle captured the collision on a dash cam. That driver briefly tailed the suspect, who was last seen in near 67th Avenue and Elwood Street. Police later determined the truck was silver. However, they do not know the possible make or model.
