VAIL, AZ (January 16, 2024) — A woman, identified as 69-year-old Eileen Wood, died in a pedestrian accident on South Houghton Road on Tuesday, January 9.
 
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at about 7:19 p.m. at the 15000 block of South Houghton Road near East Sahuarita Road.
 
As deputies arrived, they found Wood in the area. She was unresponsive and they later pronounced her dead.
 
Deputies said Wood and her husband tried to cross Houghton Road in the dark. Then a vehicle driving south on Houghton Road struck her.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
