East Valley HS Students Kiersten Noel, Sydney Stangel Die in Head-on Accident in Spokane Valley
SPOKANE VALLEY, WA (September 12, 2022) – Police have announced that Kiersten Noel and Sydney Stangel, both 17, have died following a car accident on Trent Avenue that happened on September 6.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision occurred near Sullivan Road and involved a dump truck.
Based on a report, the East Valley High School senior Stangel was driving a 2000 Lexus RX with fellow senior Noel in the vehicle. Stangel attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot on Trent Avenue. However, she failed to yield, crossing into the westbound land.
That is when the Lexus was struck by a dump truck, driven by 68-year-old Harry M. Johnson of Spirit Lake.
Due to unknown reasons, their car collided head-on with a dump truck.
Noel and Stangel were severely injured and taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center where they were placed on life support, troopers said.
Stangel, who had been in the intensive care unit following the crash, died, troopers said in a release Saturday. Noel was on life-support, but has since died, according to reports.
Friends set-up a fundraiser to help Noel family and Stangel family with their expenses.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
