One Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 10 Freeway in Chambers County

CHAMBERS COUNTY, TX (June 1, 2023) – The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one person died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a DPS car on 10 Freeway on May 30.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near Wallace Road. Based on a report, a trooper stopped a suspected drunken driver and a sheriff’s deputy pulled in behind him to assist prior to the crash.

Subsequently, another trooper pulled behind the sheriff’s deputy car to assist. Due to unknown reasons, a van driving at a high speed hit the DPS car in the back. The trooper’s vehicle was pushed forward by the impact, pinning it between the second trooper’s vehicle and the deputy’s vehicle.

As a result, the driver of the van died at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victim’s name, pending kin notification.

Crews flew the involved trooper to the Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS is handling the investigation while the sheriff’s office is assisting. As of now, no other details are available.

We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
