Derek Williams Recovering after Surprise Car Crash

 
SURPRISE, AZ (March 12, 2024) – Officials identified Derek Williams of Surprise who suffered injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Bullard Avenue on March 4.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Cactus Road. Based on a report, Williams was trying to jump-start one of his cars when a red SUV came speeding down his block.
 
Subsequently, the SUV slammed into the rear end of one of Williams’ cars. That pinned the victim between the two vehicles. The SUV driver then fled the scene.
 
As a result, Williams sustained two broken legs. He managed to use his pants as a makeshift tourniquet to slow down the bleeding before his neighbor came and called 911.
 
Officers later arrested the driver of the SUV, 43-year-old Beth Strong, who had a half-empty bottle of vodka in the glove compartment of her car. She is now facing several felony charges, including aggravated assault causing disfigurement, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and resisting arrest.
 
The victim’s family created a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses and household bill.
