Debra Matthews Dead, Lonnie Gustin and Jason Dawber Hospitalized after Fannin County Car Crash

 
FANNIN COUNTY, TX (May 22, 2023) — A 69-year-old woman, Debra Matthews of Frisco, Texas, died in a three-car accident on Wednesday, May 8.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Matthews traveled northbound on Highway 121 in a 2024 Toyota RAV4 at about 8:35 a.m.
 
At the same time, a second vehicle driven by 26-year-old Lonnie Gustin of Plano, Texas, drove southbound. Behind him was the third vehicle driven by 38-year-old Jason Dawber of Bonham, Texas.
 
Matthews then swerved to the right to prevent crashing with a vehicle making a left-hand turn. She lost control and drove into the southbound lanes. After that, she struck Gustin’s vehicle. Dawber also struck Gustin’s vehicle.
 
Texas DPS said Matthew’s vehicle caught fire after the crash.
 
Responding officers pronounced Matthews dead on the scene.
 
Paramedics transported both Gustin and Dawber to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
