Darrel Hudson Dead after Bicycle Crash in Levelland
LEVELLAND, TX (February 4, 2025) — 54-year-old Darrel Keith Hudson, of Levelland, died in a bicycle accident on Wednesday, January 29.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 5:48 p.m. on FM 300, just east of Kelly Road.
Investigators said Hudson rode his bicycle westbound on FM 300. Then a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by 22-year-old Marcus Jay Vargas, of Sundown, struck him from behind.
Due to the impact, Hudson suffered fatal injuries. Responding officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Vargas did not sustain injuries in the incident. Reports said he wore a seatbelt when the collision occurred.
DPS officials reported clear and dry road conditions at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 70 miles per hour.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
