Daniel Schaefer Struck by Vehicle in Accident on Highway 36 in Comanche

 
COMANCHE, TX (June 26, 2023) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office identified 63-year-old Daniel Schaefer of Comanche who was struck and killed in an accident on Highway 36 on June 24.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near Highway 67 around 11:58 PM. Based on a report, 31-year-old Eric Davis was driving a 2015 Dodge Avenger south on 36 in an attempt to flee from deputies for a felony offense.
 
At the same time, there were two vehicles in a parking lot near the intersection with 67. At that point, Schaefer was trying to attach a tow chain between the two vehicles as the Dodge approached. Then, Davis traveled over the overpass at high speeds, ran a red light, lost control of the Dodge and struck the two vehicles and the victim in the parking lot.
 
As a result, crews pronounced Schaefer dead at the scene.
 
Officers arrested and booked Davis into jail. As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
