Damilola Matuluko Fatally Injured after Houston Pedestrian Accident

 
HOUSTON, TX (June 19, 2024) — A woman identified the victim as Damilola Matuluko died in a pedestrian accident on Friday, May 31.
 
The accident took place near Rusk Street and Smith Street shortly before 7:40 a.m. According to Lt. Tim McClelland with the METRO Police Department, the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the intersection and had the right of way.
 
When the light turned green, a METRO bus turned onto Rusk Street and struck Matuluko.
 
Matuluko sustained fatal injuries in the incident and died. Authorities said she joined the city’s HR Operations Employee Relations team in 2023.
 
METRO said First Transit operated the bus. Police said the contract driver cooperated with investigators.
 
There were reportedly two passengers inside the bus. However, there were no reports of other injuries.
 
McClelland said the district attorney’s office continues to investigate if any charges will be filed.
