Jason Wright Killed after Dalhart Head-On Crash with 18-Wheeler on Highway 87

 
DALHART, TX (January 26, 2024) — Dalhart High School’s principal, 54-year-old Jason Scot Wright, died in a head-on crash on Wednesday, January 24.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision between the two vehicles happened on Highway 87 just before 1:00 a.m.
 
Texas DPS said Wright drove his Chevy Trailblaze west on Highway 87. Then, for an unknown reason, he veered into oncoming traffic. After that, his vehicle struck an 18-wheeler in the eastbound lane, about 10 miles east of Hartley.
 
Wright’s vehicle came to rest in the north ditch. At the same time, the truck tractor towing a semi-trailer came to a stop in the south ditch.
 
Emergency responders brought Wright to Moore County Hospital where he died of sustained injuries.
 
The driver of the truck tractor towing a semi-trailer did not have any injuries.
 
Superintendent Jeff Byrd said Wright was coming home from the school’s basketball games in Tulia when the incident happened.
 
As of Wednesday morning, the crash is still under investigation.
