Cyclist Struck, Killed in Motorcycle Pursuit Crash in Carlsbad

 
CARLSBAD, CA (August 19, 2022) — A male bicyclist died after getting caught up in a crash during a motorcycle pursuit near Carlsbad Boulevard and Palomar Airport Road on Monday afternoon, August 15.

According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the fatal collision occurred at around 1:00 p.m. A California State Parks officer was conducting an active chase on a 28-year-old motorcyclist for reckless driving and excess speed.

Authorities did not disclose the details leading up to the collision with the cyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the motorcycle had a 22-year-old female passenger on board. Medical personnel transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

There is no information on how the chase concluded. However, investigators are looking into several factors in the incident, one of which is the pursuit policy of state park officers.
