Claudio Bernal Killed after Douglas County Head-On Accident on Highway 28

 
DOUGLAS COUNTY, WA (August 11, 2024) — 32-year-old Claudio Navarro Bernal, of Bridgeport, died in a head-on accident on Saturday, July 27.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 28, east of Quincy, just after 2:30 a.m.
 
WSP said 40-year-old Tomas Floresteran, of Quincy, drove a 2023 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on Highway 28. At the same time, Navarro Bernal drove a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on the highway. He then crossed the center line and crashed head-on into Floresteran.
 
Both vehicles came to a stop and fully blocked Highway 28.
 
Responding officers pronounced Navarro Bernal dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the Volkswagen.
 
Floresteran was with a single passenger identified as 42-year-old Carolina Cortez Garcia, also from Quincy. Both suffered unspecified but non-fatal injuries. Paramedics brought them both to Central Washington Hospital.
 
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
