Christopher Salge Killed after Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway near Highway 531

ARLINGTON, WA (January 31, 2024) — A man identified as 40-year-old Christopher R. Salge, of Arlington, died in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, January 30.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened on 5 Freeway at around 3:00 a.m.

WSP Trooper Kelsey Harding said a Jeep, a motorcycle, and a semi-truck were part of the collision.

Harding said the motorcycle traveled at a high rate of speed. Then it struck the rear of a jeep on the driver’s side. The Jeep pulled over to the shoulder and activated their hazards. However, the motorcycle and the rider were down.

Investigators said the semi-truck drove by. However, its driver didn’t notice the motorcyclist on the road.

The semi driver noticed the hazards on the right shoulder and moved. Yet, failed to see what was in the roadway. They struck both the rider and the motorcycle. Salge, who was the motorcycle rider, died of sustained injuries.

Both the Jeep and the semi-truck driver remained at the scene. They cooperated with the investigation.

Authorities closed the southbound 5 Freeway, just south of Highway 531 and 172nd Street Northeast for more than six hours. All lanes reopened at about 9:30 a.m.

Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Christopher Salge.
