LAVEEEN VILLAGE, AZ (March 19, 2024) — Authorities identified the 19-year-old Christian Rodriquez as the man killed in a head-on crash on Friday, March 8.
 
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place near the intersection of 59th Avenue and Southern Avenue just after 8:00 p.m.
 
Deputies said Rodriquez tried to pass a vehicle in a construction zone. Then his car collided head-on with another vehicle.
 
Paramedics rushed Rodriquez to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel later pronounced him dead.
 
The driver of the other vehicle sustained serious yet non-life-threatening injuries.
 
MCSO said they do not yet know whether speed, impairment, or distraction contributed to the crash.
 
Authorities closed roads in the area for several hours as deputies investigated the crash. They reopened all closed lanes at 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
 
MCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Unit will then take over the ongoing investigation.
