Chirag Patel Dead after Motorcycle Crash on East Aviation Parkway and 22nd Street

 
TUCSON, AZ (March 15, 2024) — A 37-year-old man identified as Chirag Lilabhai Patel died in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, March 5.
 
According to the Tucson Police Department, the crash took place on East Aviation Parkway Tuesday near 22nd Street at about 8:00 a.m.
 
Tucson Police said Patel rode eastbound on a blue Yamaha motorcycle on East Aviation Parkway. Then he tried to make a left turn.
 
While making the turn, a 2010 Toyota Corolla heading westbound struck Patel.
 
Witnesses told police that Patel turned left on a green arrow while the Corolla ran a red light.
 
Paramedics rushed Patel to Banner University Medical Center, where he died from sustained injuries.
 
The 27-year-old female driver of the Corolla stopped after the collision. She cooperated with the authorities.
 
Medics also rushed the Corolla driver to a local hospital where she received treatment for minor injuries.
 
Officers determined the driver was not under the influence at the time of the crash. They also said Patel also wore his helmet and had the proper motorcycle endorsement on his license.
 
Police said the Toyota driver’s failure to stop at a red light was the major contributing factor to the crash.
 
Authorities continue the investigation.
