BIG SPRING, TX (September 3, 2024) — A Missouri man, identified as Caleb Mathis, filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit after an accident on Friday, August 23.
 
Mathis filed the lawsuit three days after the incident in the 118th Judicial District Court of Howard County. It alleges that the defendant, Andy Ortega, a driver for Seimon Trucking, LLC, failed to control his speed resulting into the accident.
 
The lawsuit said Ortega rear-ended six vehicles stopped at a red light in a construction zone on Highway 350, around 20 miles northeast of Big Spring.
 
The plaintiff, Caleb Mathis, claims the 18-wheeler Ortega operated was in poor condition. Other than that, he also claimed that the vehicle violated federal safety regulations.
 
According to the lawsuit, the crash led to a chain reaction. As a result, Mathis and five other drivers sustained injuries. Howard County EMS then brought all five injured to local hospitals. Mathis reportedly suffered a brain injury.
 
Lastly, the lawsuit further claims that Seimon Trucking recently failed safety inspections and violated various trucking regulations. Mathis continues to seek justice and compensation for sustained injuries.
